2012 Vintage Elna Sewing Machines
Vintage Elna 2012 Sewing Machines Are Compact And Portable
The very first Elna sewing machine and the Elnapress were designed as well as manufactured in Geneva, Switzerland. This was in the year
1934. The very first Elna was designed by a refugee Dr. Ramon Casas. The designs by Dr. Casas were produced and the
2012 vintage Elna sewing
machines came out. These elna sewing machines are compact & portable. These are electric sewing machines with a free arm.
The reason why most of the vintage Elna sewing machines do not have a type number is because they were originally called TAVARO - type Elna. It
was only later that the Elna grew out to the brand name by itself. The Elna 1 is among the first vintage elna sewing machines. These were made in
three series. They had come with several modifications. The first series can been made out by the piece of leather string which is screwed in the
counterpart of the knee-lever. This leather string was made to stop the flywheel when you take your knee off from the lever. You can adjust the
clamp that holds the piece of leather string. There is a second screw – button which is next to the screw-button that is meant to lock the stitch
length lever. This second screw button in vintage elna sewing machines operates a small friction brake on the motor axis. This way the motor will
turn very slowly while the elna sewing machine is making embroideries. Hence a pretty heavy motor was applied. So you will be able to see a bulge
on the motor-housing. This is meant to give way to one of the brush holders.
The vintage elna sewing machines 2012 have a round lid which is above the fly-wheel. This must be opened in order to reach the crankshaft for
lubrication with gearbox oil. The first series had a nickel plated lid. The second series of the Elna 1 has a different type of motor and the
friction brake is absent. The last series of the Elna 1 does not have the adjustable leather string fly-wheel brake. It uses an aluminium
crankshaft cover. The case of the first series of Elna 1 was painted in glossy black lacqery. It came with a crackle effect. It also had a
leather carrying handle. The second series in Elna 1 vintage Elna sewing machines had the same case, but it had a dark grey/green crinkle
lacquery. This is also used in the later elna sewing machine models. The last series of Elna 1 had a case with a metal handle covered in plastic.
The closing mechanism was also much better & highly improved.
The various vintage elna sewing machines are the Supermatic 1, the Star SU, the Lotus SP and TSP, the SU Air Electronic, the Stella SP Air
Electronic, and the Elna Junior series 2.
